At Alpha Manufacturing, we strive to be at the forefront of innovation in the UK sheet metal fabrication industry. One key factor in our continued success is the strength of our expert programming team, whose dedication and expertise drive the automation processes that enhance efficiency, precision, and productivity.
The Backbone of Automation
Automation is transforming manufacturing, and our programming team plays a pivotal role in making it a reality. From programming CNC punches and laser machines to optimising material utilisation and troubleshooting automation systems, our team ensures that our advanced machinery operates seamlessly. Their ability to translate complex designs into precise manufacturing programmes allows us to deliver high-quality products with minimal waste consistently.
Andrew Hughes, Programming Team Leader, highlights the importance of automation in modern manufacturing: “Automation is only as strong as the programming behind it. When our machines run efficiently, they are capable of full automation, reducing waste and maximising output. Our job is to ensure every programme gets the best out of the technology available.” With 20 years of experience in manufacturing and extensive knowledge of Trumpf Machinery and Stopa Storage systems, Andrew brings invaluable expertise to our team.
Leading Automation at Alpha Manufacturing
Guiding this dynamic department is Peter Smedley, Programming and Automation Manager. With a strong background in both management and technical training, Peter brings a comprehensive vision to Alpha Manufacturing’s automation journey.
His role involves managing a team of six programmers, ensuring timely programming of jobs, overseeing material management, and driving continuous improvements in automation. His extensive expertise and can-do attitude makes Peter the perfect person to lead innovation from the ground up.
“There’s always something exciting going on,” Peter adds. “With a wide variety of customer needs and continual investment in top-tier machinery, no two days are ever the same. I’m passionate about exploring new ways of working and helping drive Alpha Manufacturing toward Industry 4.0.”
Expertise that Powers Innovation
Our programmers are skilled in a variety of cutting-edge software solutions, including Radan and Boost, which are used to create programmes for our lasers, routers, and punch machines. Nathan Grice, an Apprentice Programmer, highlights the dynamic nature of his role: “Every day is different, which keeps things exciting. We work with a wide range of customers and products, so there’s always something new to learn. It challenges us to think creatively and improve our capabilities.” Nathan, an Apprentice of the Year finalist at the 2024 Business Awards for East Staffordshire and South Derbyshire, represents the next generation of programming talent at Alpha Manufacturing.
With over 20 years of experience, Josue Verueco has developed a deep understanding of automation programming. “Programming is the backbone of automation. What we do directly impacts the performance of our machines and the quality of the products we manufacture. I take great satisfaction in creating systematic, efficient, and productive programmes, drawing on my two decades of experience in automation.” Josue’s extensive training in Salvagnini, Bend Cell, and Boost programming ensures that our automated systems function at peak efficiency.
Continuous Learning and Growth
Training and development are integral at Alpha Manufacturing. Stephen Fleet, who has been programming since 2016, highlights the importance of hands-on learning and knowledge sharing between our team: “Over the years, I’ve gained and shared a wealth of knowledge and experience with colleagues. Alpha Manufacturing is always investing in cutting-edge machinery, which gives the team the opportunity to keep up with the latest skills and techniques in manufacturing.”
Andy Dronfield, another key member of our programming team, recently completed advanced Boost training at Trumpf. His role involves ensuring optimal material utilisation: “A key part of my job is making sure we use as much material as possible with minimal waste. It’s not just about efficiency – it’s about making our operations more sustainable and cost-effective.”
Passion Beyond the Factory Floor
While our programmers are dedicated to automation and innovation, they also have diverse interests outside of work. Whether it’s Nathan’s passion for 3D printing and clay pigeon shooting, Stephen’s love for car restoration, Josue’s competitive darts league, or Andrew’s weekend motorbike rides, our team members bring a unique blend of skills and creativity to their roles. Their enthusiasm and problem-solving abilities extend beyond the factory floor, reinforcing the culture of innovation at Alpha Manufacturing.
Pioneering the Future of Automation
At Alpha Manufacturing, we are proactive, ensuring that we’re at the forefront of the latest automation tools. Our expert programming team is at the heart of our automation strategy, ensuring we remain a leader in the UK sheet metal fabrication industry.
With our teams dedication, expertise, and continuous drive for improvement, we’re ready to pass on the latest manufacturing innovation benefits to our customers.
